Wal-Mart Stores in Chongqing Forced to Shut Down

Local authorities recently shut down a dozen stores operated by Wal-Mart in Chongqing after having been accused of falsely labeling regular pork as higher-priced organic pork, according to Wal-Mart spokeswoman.

Chongqing officials closed 10 Wal-Mart stores and two Wal-Mart-owned Trust Mart stores on Sunday and is requiring Wal-Mart to shutter them for a total of 15 days, Ms. Lee said.

The city has fined Wal-Mart 2.69 million yuan ($423,050), according to a report on Sunday by the state-owned Xinhua News Agency.
